How are you?
“We are doing fantastic! As a matter of fact, if we were any better, there would be a clone of the band running around, and that would just be too much to contain.”
You have released you new six track EP can you tell me a little bit about the release?
“‘ONE’ is now available on all digital platforms, as well as, physical copies are available at www.shallowside.net We are very proud of the product and are ecstatic to share it to anyone who has ears or will give it a listen. It was a challenging writing process at Red 13 Studios, just outside of Boston, MA. We pushed our creativity in new elements sonically and I believe the overall scope of the EP portrays that.”
What is your favourite track on the EP and why?
“My favorite track is probably our cover of Styx ‘Renegade’. It was invigorating as a musician because we had never recorded a cover song until now. Not that it makes any of the other songs less, it was just a little different in the approach because you are not creating a song from the ground up, you are doing a remodeling of an already great product, so you have to make sure you go about it the right way.”
What and who has influenced you both as individuals and as a band?
“Our influences come from abroad. We take some from rock obviously, but some of the other influences throughout the band range from Outlaw Country, Gospel, Bluegrass, Hip hop and R&B, and classical. As a drummer I take most of my influence from Miley Cyrus and Justin Beiber, but I also go out on a limb as far as people such as Danny Carrey(Tool) and Keith Moon(The Who).”
How would you say you differ from that of other bands and artists on the scene?
“We always have taken a tremendous amount of pride in putting on a live show that moves people, whether it is physically or emotionally or both. There is much more to a show than getting on stage and playing your catalog of songs. We always try to give the people at our shows a reason to come back, and we will never deviate from that.”
What do you want your fans to take from the new EP?
“We want you to take it….. Turn it sideways…. Wait, that’s what The Rock. We want to introduce a few different elements with this EP that we may not have captured like we wanted to on the previous EPs. We wanted to portray our “Southern Roots” a tad bit more seeing as in America is a very large and diverse place, so we wanted to display more of who we are and where we came from culturally.”
How did you go about the writing and recording process for the track?
“The writing process was definitely a tedious one to say the least. We were constantly pushing each other to be better at your respective instrument, and it shows on this new release whether it is vocally, guitar, bass, drums, or just overall song structuring.
What does this year hold for you?
“This year holds some fantastic opportunities for Shallow Side. Extensive touring and multiple festivals are already slated including Bratfest, Rock Fest, and Rock Into Spring, just to name a few.”
Can fans expect to see you live anytime soon?
“It depends on where said fans are located. We will be touring from sea to sea in the US, and as soon as our guitarist, Seth, finishes building our paddle boat we can possibly make our way across the pond to invade new territories. He is a pretty slow shipman, however, so all the more incentive to help get the word out in the meantime. All our dates will be posted at www.shallowside.net.”
Describe your music in three words.
“Heart, Soul, Passion”
